Resources for help with depression

A great supervisor once told me that “depression is anger turned inward.” Therefore, if you struggle with depression you may also benefit from the list of resources I made on self-compassion / self-love / confidence. In many ways self-love is the opposite of depression, and there may be more books and other media on the positive goal (self-love) than there are on the problem (depression).

Books

The Mindful Way through Depression: Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness (Mark Williams)

Dark Nights of the Soul: A Guide to Finding Your Way Through Life’s Ordeals (Thomas Moore)

Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression – and the Unexpected Solutions (Johann Hari)

Depression Hates a Moving Target: How Running With My Dog Brought Me Back From the Brink (Nita Sweeney)

Videos

2019 October 11. Johann Hari. TED Talk: This could be why you’re depressed or anxious

2013 December 18. Andrew Solomon. TED Talk: Depression, the secret we share.

Suggestions?

I plan to add to this list over time. If you have found a resource for depression that has helped you, please feel free to leave it in the comments section!
